Arrested for Sexual Assault? Contact Lincoln Attorney Kevin J. Oursland
Few accusations are more devastating than to be accused of a sex crime such as date rape or child molestation. Just the accusation can have a damaging effect on your family and your reputation. If you are convicted, you could face a long prison sentence and the necessity to register as a sex offender.
As a former state prosecutor and a defense lawyer with more than 13 years of experience handling sexual assault cases, I know how to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the state's evidence against you. I offer a free initial consultation to discuss your case.
I represent people charged with all types of sex crimes in Nebraska, including:
- Statutory rape
- Sexual assault
- Sexual assault of a child
- Internet solicitation
- Child pornography
- Prostitution
Nebraska Sex Offender Registration
Any conviction for a sex crime that involves sexual contact with breast or private areas carries with it a requirement to register as a sex offender. There are three levels of offender status in Nebraska:
| Sex offender level | What it involves |
| Level 1 | Only law enforcement agencies are notified. |
| Level 2 | Law enforcement agencies and schools are notified. |
| Level 3 | Law enforcement agencies and schools will be notified. Your status as a sex offender will be published in the newspaper and on the Nebraska State Patrol Sex Offender Web site. |
The Nebraska State Patrol will determine what level sex offender you are based on factors such as your past history, the age of the victim and the extent of injury to the victim. You will have to register for 10 years, unless you receive lifetime registration as a violent or repeat offender.
Defending You Against Sexual Assault Charges
In most sex crime cases, the most important evidence will usually be the statements made by the two people involved. As the accused, did you make any admissions to police? What statements did the victim make?
As your lawyer, I will seek to break down the statements made by the alleged victim to show a jury that it couldn't have happened the way the victim said it did.
