Arrested for a Theft Crime? Contact Lincoln Attorney Kevin J. Oursland
Theft, robbery and burglary charges can have a devastating effect on your life. A conviction, even if you receive probation, will result in a permanent criminal history. A prospective employer or anyone else conducting a background check on you may treat you differently once they find out you were convicted of a crime involving dishonesty.
As a former state prosecutor and a defense lawyer with more than 13 years of experience, my goal is to minimize the effect of a theft, robbery or burglary arrest on your life. I offer a free initial consultation to discuss your case.
I defend people charged with all types of property crimes, including:
- Shoplifting
- Embezzlement
- Forgery
- Theft
- Theft by deception
- Theft of services
- Robbery
- Burglary
Theft Crimes
Theft under $500 and forgery under $300 are misdemeanors, punishable by up to one year in prison and a $1,000 fine. If you are accused of theft of property valued at $500 or higher or forgery over $300, you face felony charges.
As your lawyer, I can seek pretrial diversion to help you avoid a conviction if this is your first offense. You may also be able to minimize the consequences by offering restitution.
Robbery Offenses
Robbery is theft of property by force or by brandishing a weapon. Since it is an offense against a person, robbery is a more serious offense than theft. It is a class two felony, punishable by up to fifty years in prison.
Burglary
Burglary is entering a dwelling for the purpose of committing a crime. A class three felony, burglary is subject to a prison sentence of from one to 20 years in prison.
